All You Need To Know About Scalp Micropigmentation

Overview

Scalp micropigmentation is a non- surgical alternative to treat thinning hair, receding hairline, and baldness.  The procedure involves the application of pigments, which look like real hair follicles growing from the scalp.  It is also known as hair tattooing and is suitable for all types of hair loss.

An SMP procedure does not lead to hair growth, but it creates the illusion of thick hair.  Hence, one’s expectations must be reasonable.

Who is scalp micropigmentation suitable for?

SMP is suitable for:

  1. Men/ women with thinning hair.
  2. Individuals with a receding hairline.
  3. Individuals suffering from baldness.

Scalp micropigmentation is suitable for both men and women.  Several factors can cause an individual to lose hair.  This could be due to:

  • Hereditary
  • Hormonal changes
  • Illness or disease
  • Medications or medical treatments
  • Traumatic or stressful events

Hair loss is disturbing for everyone, and lowers one’s self esteem.  Scalp micropigmentation is a safe and effective solution for all such individuals suffering from hair loss, no matter what the cause.

What is the procedure like?

A typical scalp micropigmentation procedure requires 2 to 3 sessions, with a gap of one week to 10 days, between 2 sessions.  Every session may last a couple of hours depending on how large is the area to be treated.

Before beginning the procedure the right color of pigment is selected.  One that matches your natural hair color so that it blends seamlessly with your own hair.

Once the pigment color is chosen, the technician will choose the correct needle, the penetration depth, and the needle angle that’s appropriate.  Once done, the pigment is applied to specific areas of the scalp, or the entire scalp if needed, carefully, so the correct shape is achieved.

Risks or side- effects

Slight redness maybe observed in the areas where the pigment is applied, or 2 to 4 hours post the procedure.  However, the procedure is very safe and has no side- effects compared to a hair transplant.

The only possible risk is a possible allergic reaction incase of poor quality pigments used or other materials.  Hence, it is advisable to get it done from a trusted practitioner, who meets the hygiene and sanitation standards.
